Awakening the Spirit
This picture is of my Kookum Helen Stevens, she is 82 years old and to this day has no running water. My kookum is the strongest purest and gentlest soul I have ever met on this planet. Her family protected her during the attempted assimilation of residential school. She has preserved our old ways of living and passing on the sacred teachings the way she learned. She is my foundation teaching me Love, Respect, Honesty, Courage, Truth, Humility & Wisdom. Therefore I am able to pass on to my sons Medicine Bear, Shael & Niska. My name is Spring Blue Bird Woman from the Moose Clan. My western name is Bonnie May Stevens and I reside in Winnipegosis.”
Preserving our old ways is important to me and I pass on my teachings humbly to anyone I cross paths with. During this pandemic I am able to reawaken her spirit as well as mine. For the future I hope that others are able to reconnect with their spirits and preserve our old ways.
